Equipment For Building Rapid Tooling Quickly
We have talked some common machining equipment for tooling manufacturing at TEAM Rapid Tooling, hereby we will introduce some ‘smart’ equipments that used commonly in injection mold and rapid tooling building.
3 Main Equipment Used in Rapid Tooling Manufacturing
CNC Machine
The traditional machining is almost manual operation with ordinary machines, which processing the work-pieces by hand-shaking the mechanical cutters and then measuring the parts by calipers or other tools. Even now, this ordinary process is still very important and basic in the mold workshops. With the fast development of computer technology, the advanced mold makers have operated to process with computer-controlled system for a long time.
The numerical control processing can machine the parts directly according to the program edited by the technicians. CNC is short for Computerized Numerical Control, which includes CNC milling, turning machining, CNC electromachining, etc. However, CNC refers to CNC milling generally for tooling rapid manufacturing.
EDM Machine
Electrical discharge machining (EDM), also known as spark machining, spark eroding or wire erosion, is a manufacturing technology that the requested shape is obtained by using electrical discharge. Material is removed from the part by a series of rapidly recurring current discharges between two electrodes, which separated by a dielectric liquid and subjected to an electric voltage. EDM is a typical machining method for tooling manufacturing, and is particularly suitable for the complex shape or hard metal which is difficult to be cut via general machining processes.
EDM is mainly used for processing holes and cavities of the molds and cavities with complex shapes, or various of hard and brittle materials such as hard alloy and hardened steel, or deep holes, shaped holes, deep grooves, narrow slits and thin sheets.
WEDM Machine
Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM), also known as wire-cut EDM or wire cutting, which is is fed through the workpiece via a thin single-strand metal wire(brass usually) submerged in a tank of dielectric fluid( typically deionized water).
It is mainly used for a variety of parts with complex shapes and high precision, including all kinds of micro-holes, slits, any curves. It has many advantages such as small processing margin, high precision, short production cycle, low injection moulding mould cost etc. As well, WEDM is commonly used when low residual stress is desired, because it does not require high cutting force for removal of material.
TEAM Rapid OffersRapid Tooling Service
At TEAM Rapid, we have all the machines mention above. It’s our basis for tooling manufacturing. Apart from these manufacturing facilities, there are many other devices in our factory to support our Rapid Tooling such as injection molding machines, CMM, project, etc. Please contact us, if you have any projects requiring low volume manufacturing. We can provide one-stop service for you.
